Dr. Gustavo Ruiz de Castilla received his dental degree from Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated Cum Laude (high honors) in 1989, and was the recipient of the Northeastern Society of Periodontists award for excellence in undergraduate periodontics, and the Quintessence Award for outstanding performance in clinical periodontics

Dr. Ruiz earned a Master’s Degree in Medical Sciences in the discipline of Oral Biology and completed his training in Post-Doctoral Periodontics and Implantology at Harvard University. After graduation in 1991, he was appointed Assistant Clinical Instructor for the Department of Periodontology in the Post-Doctoral Training Program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Ruiz has done extensive research, and pioneer work, in the field of periodontal regeneration, and has extensive experience in procedures leading to the regeneration of the supporting structures of the teeth. He has published several articles in this topic and has lectured nationally and internationally in the subjects of bone grafting and regeneration, periodontics and implantology. Also, he is the only periodontist certified in Laser Periodontal Therapy in Hillsborough County.

Dr. Ruiz is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American Dental Association, and the Florida Dental Association. He is former president of the Hillsborough County Periodontal Association.
